Mentee enrichment through education, skill acquisition, and real-world experiences.
We promote a culture of inclusion and support individuality. Everyone is unique and can bring something special to the laboratory.
Lifestyle-based strategies to improve cardiovascular health and cognitive function in young adults.
The CVL adopts a see-do-teach model of training. Mentee’s can reach their full potential through mastery of foundational knowledge, experiential learning, and educating others on how a physically active lifestyle benefits cardiovascular health and cognitive function.
The CVL strives to increase diversity in biomedical research. Through an individualized mentorship plan, the CVL builds on strengths and identifies new areas of growth for prospective mentees.
Short term: Establish a mentee-centered laboratory. Medium term: Receive federal funding to support research endeavors. Long Range: Maintain consistent federally funded research and mentorship program.
The CVL is a community. The following values are codes of ethics that define how our community is expected to interact with its members.
Our community not only welcomes those from diverse backgrounds – we actively seek it out! Diversity results in creative thinking.
The CVL team helps others because it's the right thing to do (and it feels good doing so), not expecting anything in return.
We can achieve better quality work and efficiency in the lab when we collaborate and work together.
Actively practice the growth mindset – bring solutions not problems.
Each of us is responsible for our own words, actions, and results.
Failure is one of the greatest teachers. If you are trying your best, and pushing the limits of your abilities, you will learn from mistakes, and in turn, overcome adversity and continue to grow professionally and personally!
Evaluating the quality of another's work is an important component of higher-level thinking and learning. Be open to constructive feedback, and also feel comfortable providing positive feedback to others who need it.
Approach each new task with an attitude of curiosity in order to produce a solutions-focused mindset.
Do not let negative thoughts simmer. You have freedom to be open with one another about your feelings and emotions in the laboratory, and practice effective communication. We are all on the same team and have the same end-goals in mind! Let us work together to achieve them in all aspects of laboratory operations.
