Dr. Daniel Credeur directs all laboratory operations. The primary research focus is lifestyle-based strategies to improve cardiovascular health and cognitive functioning.
Research Biosketch: Dr. Credeur recieved his PhD in clinical exercise physiology from Louisiana State University (2011) where he studied the cardiovascular health benefits of exercise in multiple populations including healthy young, the elderly, and patients like congestive heart failure. Following doctoral training, Dr. Credeur began a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia in medical pharmacology and physiology under the guidance of Dr. Paul Fadel, director of the human neurovascular control laboratory at that time. As a post-doc, Dr. Credeur exapanded his research training to explore the cardiometabolic health changes associated with physical inactivity and sedentary behavior, i.e., prolonged sitting. As a result of this work, a novel prolonged sitting research model was developed and tested. Following post-doctoral training (2014), Dr. Credeur became an assistant professor of exercise science in the School of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Southern Mississippi-Hattiesburg. During this time, several collaborative studies were conducted exploring the physiologal impact of prolonged uninteruptted sitting. It was discovered that a single bout of sitting (1-3 hours) can negegatively affect the vasculature, characterized by the following changes: leg blood pooling, endothelial dysfunction, aortic stiffening, and decreased brain blood flow. Importantly, breaking-up prolonged sitting periods with physical activity, like walking or body weight exercises, can prevent these undesirable vascular health changes and acutely improve cognitive functioning (See RESEARCH for selected peer-revied publications). The prolonged sitting model serves as a foundational protocol for current projects like SitLESS and SitWELL (see STUDIES for details).Â
Teaching Focus:
Dr. Credeur has extensive teaching experience and has taught a range of formats in the following subject areas: kinesiology, exercise science, health and wellness, sports performance, and nutrition. Dr. Credeur is also a specialist in online education.
